The Biglin Brothers Turning the Stake-Boat, Eakins
John and Barney Biglin were two brothers who were both profesional rowers. The two brothers rowed as a team during civil war, when rowing was extremely popular. The brothers had won a race in Poughkeepsie, NY in July 1865. The race was said to have about 20,000 people there and about $100,000 wagered on the race. It is not known which brother is which in the photo above but John seems to be the in the back.
